As calls grow to ban Russian oil imports, gasoline prices are pushing even higher above $4 per gallon, the highest price that American motorists have faced since July 2008.
Prices at the pump had been rising long before Russia invaded Ukraine, and they have risen even faster since the war began. According to AAA, the national average for a gallon of gasoline in the United States has risen 45 cents in the last week and topped $4.06 on Monday.
Regular gasoline prices surpassed $4 per gallon for the first time in nearly 14 years on Sunday, and are now nearly 50% higher than a year ago.
President Biden, who has been reluctant to ban Russian oil with a fear that it will further lead to fuel inflation, then recently announced a ban on Russian oil and gas imports into the United States on Tuesday, the newest move to punish Moscow for occupying Ukraine.
It is really inevitable to see an increase in oil prices nationwide given the situation and we have no other choice but to accept it on our part as car owners.
